Paddle Board Rentals Near Anacortes
Anacortes has no shortage of saltwater. What it does not have is flat, protected lake water — and that is a different, easier kind of paddle.
What a paddle day from Anacortes actually looks like
Anacortes is surrounded by water, but most of it is Salish Sea saltwater: tides, ferry wake, boat traffic, cold water, and wind that comes up fast. Plenty of experienced paddlers handle it. It is not where you want to put a first-timer or a kid on a board.
The lakes east of us are the opposite kind of day. Our rack is about 35 minutes away on SR-20 through Burlington, and from there Clear Lake and Big Lake are within about 10 minutes. Lake Samish, roughly 25 minutes north of the rack, is worth the extra drive if you want quiet country shoreline and a public park to launch from.
Given the drive, a full-day or multi-day rental usually makes more sense from Anacortes than a two-hour timed one. Whole-day rentals keep the board overnight and are due back by midday the following day, so an Anacortes trip does not have to be a round trip in one afternoon.

We are not at any of these lakes — the boards live in Sedro-Woolley and the water is your choice. Drive times below are measured from the rack, not from Anacortes.
- Clear Lake (5 min from the rack) — Small and quiet, right next door, great for a first paddle.
- Big Lake (10 min from the rack) — Wide, calm water and an easy public launch. The local favorite.
- Lake Samish (25 min from the rack) — Mellow country paddling with a public park on the north shore.
- Lake Whatcom (35 min from the rack) — Big open water up toward Bellingham when you want room to roam.
- Lake Padden (40 min from the rack) — No motorboats, so the water stays glassy.
